We hear on the news that Alberta has a spending problem. I’d like to open the door to talk about this on a personal level -- Having money conversations can be tough. Shame and embarrassment can be a limiting factor in us opening the door to have a look at where you are at financially. Bringing awareness to where you are is the first step towards making a change. No different than an alcoholic realizing they have a drinking problem. It isn’t until you recognize and are willing to admit you have a spending problem that you can then begin the steps to change.
The majority of people do not like to budget. It can be frustrating and difficult for many to track their income and their spending. However, taking action on a regular monthly basis will keep it real: it will force you to look at what it is you need to change and where you need to focus your attention.
Is it time for you to begin a “spending detox?”
Leave your credit cards at home.
Commit to living within your means.
“Progression not perfection” is a great attitude to adopt while investigating where you need to make changes. Every day is a new day to create better habits that will change your future.
Believe in yourself and that you have the ability to make changes, that you have what it takes to achieve your financial goals. You just need to ask yourself: are the habits you are doing today leading you towards the prosperity you are seeking?
Let go of judgment and criticism and begin to make choices that make you feel happy about your relationship with money.
What habits are disrespectful to your money?
Those are the ones you need to let go of.
Think about this: You may feel more positive and happier when you actually open up that savings accounts and commit to funding it monthly. Get clear on your goals and what do you really want, then begin the journey to focus on what you need to do.
It is not always easy to make changes and if you struggle doing it on your own then I encourage you to reach out for help.
Many years ago, when I started on my journey towards financial freedom, there was a struggle to begin, especially seeing all the work it would take, but my desire to reach my goal of financial freedom was stronger.
First, it began with the work on myself. I actually had to become the person worthy of achieving my goals. I had to change myself first. I had to heal wounds that created insecurities and blocked me from true self-worth. I had to forgive others and myself as it truly opens the door for me to be free. I had to cultivate myself and the garden of my mind to weed out what was not supporting me and instead plant seeds that would support me. The path towards the achievement of your goals and desires is a journey and not a destination.
What do you desire?
Is it financial freedom?
If so, what does that mean to you and what action steps are required to lead you towards the attainment of that goal?
Allow yourself to examine where you’re at and get real with what habits and thoughts are self-defeating. How you are feeling on an emotional level right now in your money relationship has an impact on whether you are creating prosperity or defeat. Action is the next key.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. (Albert Einstein)
